Originally unveiled at the 1960 Milan Triennale, this innovative chair—Japan’s first to feature a racket (mortise-and-tenon) structure—has been beautifully redesigned by renowned designer Daisaku Cho. At the time, the exhibition space was created by the Junzo Sakakura Architectural Institute, where Cho, then a staff designer, was responsible for the furniture design.
The organically curved backrest was inspired by the elegant arc of a persimmon sliced vertically in half. Perfect as a refined dining chair, it pairs seamlessly with Cho’s own Mushroom Base Table.
The vinyl leather model features a special stain-resistant coating that repels dirt and makes any marks easy to wipe clean. This durable, low-maintenance material also offers excellent colorfastness, preserving its original rich hue for years without fading or discoloration.
Designer Daisaku Nagai personally selected three timeless base colors—Black (L-6562), Brown (L-6565), and Ivory (L-6543)—to complement a wide range of interiors. In addition, customers can choose from a full palette of 114 colors, allowing you to customize the chair to perfectly match your dining space or modern Japanese décor.
*We can produce the chair in your favorite color from the upholstery color list (no additional charge). If you wish, please select \"custom color\" and specify the number of the desired upholstery color in the remarks section of the checkout.
