Originally unveiled at the 1960 Milan Triennale, this innovative chair—Japan’s first to feature a racket (mortise-and-tenon) structure—has been beautifully redesigned by renowned designer Hisayuki Nagai. At the time, the exhibition space was created by the Junzo Sakakura Architectural Institute, where Nagai, then a staff designer, was responsible for the furniture design.
The organically curved backrest was inspired by the elegant arc of a persimmon sliced vertically in half. Perfect as a refined dining chair, it pairs seamlessly with Nagai’s own Mushroom Base Table.
The fabric model is crafted from a soft wool-blend upholstery, offering a warm, inviting texture and a refined modern look. Designer Hisayuki Nagai personally selected three signature base colors—Red (NC-107), Brown (NC-123), and Dark Gray (NC-128)—that complement contemporary and Japanese-modern interiors alike.
For complete customization, you can also choose from a rich palette of 75 additional fabric colors, allowing your chair to perfectly match your dining space or design theme.
*We can produce the chair in your favorite color from the upholstery color list (no additional charge). If you wish, please select \"custom color\" and specify the number of the desired upholstery color in the remarks section of the checkout.
